After receiving her B.A. and M.A. in English from Stanford University and her Ph.D. in English from the University of California at Berkeley, Christine Cozzens taught writing at Harvard University, Wheaton College, and Emory University before coming to Agnes Scott College, where she directs the Center for Writing and Speaking and is associate professor of English. She has led workshops on writing at Emory, Oxford at Emory, Georgia State University, the University of Tennessee at Martin, and Oglethorpe University. One of her earliest “English” jobs was a position as a writing center tutor at Berkeley, and she also worked in the writing center at Harvard. Her other interests and teaching specialties include creative nonfiction, journalism, writing pedagogy, Irish literature and history, and nineteenth-century British literature. Dr. Cozzens believes that the writing center is a vital part of Agnes Scott’s writing emphasis. “Students learn the process of inquiry and ways of thinking about problems in their courses,” she says. “But at the Writing Center, they figure out how to write the actual paper. The Writing Center complements the academic program.”
